Periodontics

Periodontics is the branch of dentistry that focuses on the health of your gums and other supporting structures of your teeth. It is important to maintain healthy gums because they provide support and stability to your teeth and act as a foundation for your entire oral structure. One of the centralized focuses within periodontics is preventing, diagnosing, and treating periodontal disease. Beyond that, periodontists also place an emphasis on the placement of dental implants and the treatment of gum recession.

While poor oral hygiene is often the primary cause of problems affecting the oral structure, other factors can contribute to these issues as well. These include poor brushing techniques, using tobacco products, bruxism, certain medications, certain health conditions, and even stress.

If you are concerned about your gum health or supportive oral bone structures, it is important to visit our office for an evaluation. We will be able to assess your individual needs and recommend the best course of treatment.  If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call our Yucaipa, CA, team today.

Implant Surgery

Dental implant surgery is a procedure that is performed in order to replace missing teeth with dental implants. To begin the surgery, the dentist will make an incision in the gums to expose the bone. Next, a hole will be drilled into the bone and the implant post will be placed. Once the implant is in place and topped with an abutment, the gums will be stitched up and allowed to heal. After the healing process is complete, a dental crown or another type of restoration will be placed on top of the implant to conclude the process.

As the implant relies on healthy bone tissue in order to remain stable, implant surgery is not an option for everyone. Patients must have enough bone density to support the implant, and if they do not, a bone graft may be necessary.

LANAP

LANAP (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure) is a minimally invasive laser surgery for the treatment of periodontal disease. Treatment involves isolating the bacteria responsible for the condition and eliminating it from the gums and bone — all while leaving the healthy tissue untouched. This helps to minimize bleeding, swelling, and discomfort during and after the procedure. The laser also helps to stimulate new tissue growth, which helps to improve the long-term stability of your teeth and gums.

Recession Treatment

Gum recession is a condition in which the gum tissue around the teeth wears away. This can expose the roots of the teeth and make them more sensitive and susceptible to decay. Over time, the loss of the gum tissue can also cause the teeth to become loose and fall out.

Gum recession can be caused by a number of factors, including brushing too hard, using a toothbrush with hard bristles, periodontal disease, clenching or grinding the teeth, and even certain medical conditions. Treatment for gum recession will depend on the underlying cause. In some cases, simply changing your brushing habits or using a softer toothbrush can help. If periodontal disease is the cause, treatment may involve scaling and root planing to remove tartar and bacteria from the teeth and gums. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to correct the problem.

Periodontal Surgery

Periodontal surgery is a type of dental procedure that is performed to restore health, aesthetics, and function to the smile following periodontal disease. This surgery involves the removal of diseased tissue and the repair of any damage that has been done to the teeth and gums. Periodontal surgery is often considered to be the last resort after other less invasive treatments, such as scaling and root planing, have failed. However, in some cases, surgery may be the best option to save the teeth and restore oral health.

During the surgery, we will make small incisions in your gums in order to access the underlying bone. Once the bone is exposed, we will clean away any diseased tissue and repair any damage that has been done. In some cases, a bone graft may be necessary to provide support for the teeth. Once the surgery is complete, you will be given specific instructions on how to care for your smile as you heal. With proper care and maintenance, your smile will be healthy and beautiful for years to come.
